El Salvador is a country located in Central America with a population estimated to be over 6,000,000.

Its land is organized into 14 departments and 262 municipalities. Its capital is the city of San Salvador, where the YWAM base is located.

El Salvador has a tropical climate which makes it the perfect home for a wide array of birds, reptiles, flora, and fauna. El Salvador also boasts world-famous beaches, volcanoes, mountains and lakes. It is bordered by Honduras, Guatemala and the Pacific Ocean.

Many believe that El Salvador has the best local cuisine in all of Central America. The most famous typical dish is the pupusa, rice or corn tortillas stuffed with beans, pork, cheese or even shrimp among many other options and then toasted on a griddle. In recent years, interest has grown in Salvadoran coffee and farms now export their coffee beans all over the world.

In recent years, adventure tourism has begun to flourish in El Salvador as many people make their way to enjoy trekking volcanoes, surfing the giant swells, ziplining through the tree canopy or splashing in waterfalls. The Salvadoran people are known for their hospitality and warm smiles. It is normal to be welcomed with open doors and open arms.

Sadly, El Salvador suffered a devastating civil war, leaving broken families, extreme poverty, violent gangs, corrupt politicians, and mass exodus to nearby countries as a result. When asked, many Salvadorans say their main prayer request is for peace in their nation and protection for their families. In recent years, a middle class has begun to emerge and Salvadoran business and artisans have emerged to create job opportunities and wealth.

We long to see El Salvador totally restored and declaring Jesus as Lord. We believe that Jesus is the only solution to the problems that face this nation and as such, we are dedicated to proclaiming the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ here in El Salvador.
